Since 1997, on May 31, Kazakhstan has celebrated the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repressions and the Famine of 1931-1933. According to historians, more than 100,000 Kazakhstanis were repressed during the years of the Stalinist regime, of whom almost one in four was shot. The Kazakh intelligentsia was mercilessly and brutally shot, and about a third of the population of the territory of Kazakhstan died of starvation.
On May 30, 2022, a meeting was held at the Karaganda Higher College "Bolashaq" with a well-known journalist, laureate of the Union of Journalists Prize Ekaterina Borisovna Kuznetsova, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Famine and Political Repressions. Ekaterina Borisovna devoted more than 27 years of her life to studying the bloody pages of the Karlag, several books about these terrible events came out from under her pen. Her name is familiar not only to Kazakhstanis, but also to citizens of near and far abroad.
Students listened with interest to Ekaterina Borisovna, asked questions, recalled their emotions and feelings when visiting the Karlag Museum. There is no doubt that such meetings are of great benefit in educating young people in morality and patriotism.
